Historical Enquiries

We visited Bottisham last weekend together with surrounding villages and gathered more information regarding my husband's ancestors - the Hart family. We would be very interested to know where the Rose & Crown Public House was - can anyone help us?

Hi,

My family and I lived at the old air base at Bottisham when the base was used as a Polish Boy's School (college age boys). We left for the States in January of '52. I was eight years old at the time. I attended the regular British school in Bottisham where I had many friends like Trevor Millard, Roy Carlton, John French, Redgie and Ritchie Babcock, and others. My family settled in Chicago when we arrived in the US. I am presently living in a suburb of Chicago.

I am married and have two adult children. My wife and I are looking forward to visit the UK and Bottisham in particular within the next couple of years. I would have liked to have done so sooner, but things always seemed to have come up so that the trip was postponed.

It would be a great pleasure for me to hear from someone from Bottisham.

Hi,

I would like to know if there is anyone in the Bottisham area with detailed information on families that used to live there, including, for example, information about gravestones at Holy Trinity church. I visited Bottisham in August last year when I was living in Peterborough and had found records at the County Record Office that made it seem likely that some of my ancestors had come from the village.

I have since had this confirmed and now know that my great-great- great grandfather Thomas Parker, was baptised in Bottisham in 1780. He moved to Cambridge, his son moved to London, his son  moved to Townsville in Australia and his son, my dad, moved to Brisbane where I was born. But before Thomas left for the bright lights of Cambridge (maybe not too bright in 1803) it appears as though the family was fairly settled in Bottisham (occasionally Little Wilbraham) since the early 1600's. And, apart from one Henry, they all seem to have been called Thomas Parker.

I've been putting together some genealogical information for my dad on the family's history while I'm living in the UK and now that I know the Bottisham connection is correct I'd really like to get some more information about the history of the area. If you could point me in the direction of any local historians or genealogists I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks,

Louise Pieper (nee Parker)
