What time should I put my waste out for collection?
Waste/recycling should be put out before 7.00am on the day of collection.
Black Refuse Bags
We will collect a maximum of 5 black bags. This system has been introduced to try and reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfill. Central Government have set targets which need to be met by:
-
Reduce
waste to landfill by 75% by 2021. The baseline for this was
taken in 1995. The tonnage for the district was 21,000
tonnes, we therefore need to reduce our waste to landfill to
16,000 tonnes by 2010 to ensure we reach our target. If we
do not achieve this, we will be required to pay £150 per
tonne over our 16,000 tonne target. If we continue to
produce residual waste at the rate we are at the moment,
this will cost the Council nearly one million pounds per
annum in penalties, this cost will need to be passed on to
residents.
- Increase recycling rates to 52% by 2010. The Council will provide advice to households on recycling and will continue to find sites for waste recycling centres to enable more recycling centres to enable more recycling to take place.
The Council have ensured that food waste does not stand around for more than a week to reduce any problems with odour, etc. Food waste will be collected in the black bag one week and brown sack the following week.
Nappies will be collected on a weekly basis. They can be placed in the black bag one week, and the following week they can go into the yellow tiger bag.
