Bottisham Village College - A 'Beacon School'
The Warden has received the new that the College had been granted Beacon Status with effect from 1st September 2000. Four secondary schools in Cambridgeshire were invited to apply on the basis of their exam.results at Key Stage 3 and at GCSE. Ofsted inspection reports were also taken into account.
Of the four schools, Bottisham and Linton Village Colleges were successful.
Beacon Schools are defined by the Department for Education and Employment as "among the best performing schools in the country" and they are called upon to share their good practice with other schools.
Being a Beacon School will bring additional resources to the College to help to facilitate its work with other schools. Pupils may notice a number of visitors next year; some may be 'shadowing' college staff as they work, others will be looking at policies and resources: the anti - bullying policy has already been singled out for such attention. Another area that will attract attention is community education; Bottisham and Linton already collaborate in this area, and the two colleges hope to work together in promoting good practice to schools locally and nationally.
Pupils, Staff and Governors are very proud that Bottisham Village College has been chosen for this important accolade.
